"Please Don't Make Me Look Like a Clown"

As a makeup artist, we all have our "thing". Our niche, or specialist look.

Mine, is natural, with a flushed cheek of colour.

But when I say 'natural', I don't mean wearing next to nothing. I mean making it look like you're wearing next to no makeup, like the famous 'No Makeup Makeup' look, as penned by the Queen Bobbi Brown herself. Carefully shadowed, subtly contoured, cleverly highlighted. Essentially leaving you with what I can only describe as a healthy looking finish. No cakey powder, no heavy layers, just a dusting here and a swipe there, that feels light and more youthful.

Now maybe this is an age thing. Maybe it's because I always reach for the cream products. Or maybe it's because we've suffered a generation of zebra stripe contouring, cut crease eyeshadow, and the unnecessary 7-step skincare routine that I'm over this being the profile of all MUAs. Quite frankly, the feeling from most of my clientele, is that it petrifies them that they'll come away from my chair looking like Bobo the Clown - despite my portfolio never giving so much as a whiff of this being my style.

So I've made it my personal mission to change this perception. Not all makeup artists are the same. I want "Wow" reactions, "Can you come to me everyday" comments, "I've never looked this good before" kinda talk. Ya know!?

I find people are always so amazed by the element of a natural or neutral palette makeup looking so beautiful. When I hand over the mirror, there's something about the surprise reaction that they were expecting to look like a completely different person - but in reality, they see themselves reflected back, just polished, or "levelled up" if you will. And that always throws me.

We're not here to transform (unless of course that's your request - because we can absolutely do that, just say the word), we're not here to turn you into anything other than the best version of you. And to find a makeup artist that listens, and follows your brief, can be trickier than you think. We don't always get it right, but we're out there!
