I've seen a lot on socials recently, discussing the traditional benefits of the use of Primers. Now for those unsure of what a Primer is, or the benefits it should offer - Primers are to be applied after skincare, before base makeup, as a way to provide a perfect bed for foundation and to hold it all in place. Some artists love this process and swear by it.
I, however, do not.
UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT!
I've always struggled with the solo use of primers, and the idea that they alone can hold a makeup in place - or give it longevity.
Do I use primers, sometimes. But I'll use a brightening primer mixed with a moisturiser, or a pore reducing primer for key areas.
But the idea that these are what keeps a makeup in place, I do struggle with. Because, essentially, it's another layer of cream that can actually cause your makeup to move and slip.
SO, WHAT'S MY SECRET?
Setting Spray. And I'm not just talking at the end of a makeup. I use three stages of setting spray.
After Skincare - this is what I believe gives my foundation a beautiful bed for a flawless finish.
After Base Makeup Application - to set and hold, ready for any powder and finishing.
Finished Makeup - The final spritz to seal it all in place.
Try this process out yourself, and I guarantee you'll notice a difference not only in the hold of your makeup, but in the application and it's flawlessness.
SIDE NOTE: It's always worth mentioning that absolutely no product on the market will stop you from shine, or your makeup from moving. My process above will certainly help keep it at bay for a little longer, but the reality is, unless you're a robot, your face moves and your body temperature changes. Your skin will breath and produce oils regardless of the products you've used. We have no control over these things, despite what the ad might tell you.
