The age of AI in the fashion industry

It's something you hear being talked about and being threatened in our world, and that's

AI is going to take all our jobs!

It may sound dramatic to some, but I am coming from a place of experience. Working in the fashion and commercial space, I am gradually seeing more and more of my peers being made redundant (if they're full time employees), or reduced bookings (for us freelancers), all thanks to companies dipping their toes into the world of AI and using AI for their campaigns and eCommerce shoots.

What does this mean? Well, it means creatives are being replaced. No more do they need stylists, photographers, hair and makeup artists or even models to a degree!

Models are selling their faces for companies to use, for a contracted period of time, but there is no requirement for them to physically attend any shoots anymore.

Photographic studios will be used less and less while imagery on your beloved fashion websites will be taken over by computer generated AI models and imagery.

Not only is this saddening for creatives, but consumers will no longer be looking at a real life model that they may be able to relate to, see how the products perform or how the clothing moves in real life, the perfection that will be portrayed won't be real. And even if they create realistic looking body shapes and appearances, it still won't be real. It will be the idea of normal, designed by the creator.

So what are your thoughts as we rapidly move into this new world of almost everything becoming a question mark in our minds. Already we are second guessing news, social media content and influencers, and now our favourite fashion houses are using AI imagery too. We'll be completely disconnected from real life before we know it.

This is precisely why human connection is essential. Engaging in real-life activities has never been more crucial, as everything else we consume will exist in digital form.
